George Hartman’s 50-year career as an advisor, executive, coach, and consultant spans the insurance and investment industries. He began as an insurance advisor before moving to his company’s Head Office to take on various roles including Director of Training, Advanced Marketing Manager and Regional Vice President. George validated his knowledge of the advisor world when he joined an investment management firm where, under his direction as Vice-President, Marketing, the assets of that firm grew from $70 million to more than $600 million in six years. George is an insightful industry observer and prolific writer. In the 1990s, he published two best-selling books; Risk is a Four Letter Word & Risk is STILL a Four Letter Word, to assist advisors in discussions with clients around the topic of asset allocation. By the year 2000, George’s concern about advisors’ inattention to the strategic and tactical aspects of their business, directed him to shift the focus of his research, writing and consulting to practice management. This led to the release of another best-seller, Blunder, Wonder, Thunder - Powering Your Practice to New Heights. George’s fourth best-selling book EXIT is NOT a Four Letter Word - How to Transition Your Practice Profitably and Proudly was released in response to his coaching and consulting clients’ requests for guidance on how advisors should plan and implement their eventual transition or exit from the business. For more than 15 years, George has written The Coach’s Forum for Canadian trade journal Investment Executive and is a regular guest on Building Your Business television broadcast on IE:TV. George has been a keynote speaker at conferences in Canada, the US, Mexico, Germany, the Caribbean, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and New Zealand, including four appearances at Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) and Top of the Table annual meetings. As one of the industry’s best-known advisor strategists, practice management mentors, practice valuation and succession planning experts, he coaches top-performing advisors in Canada and the US and consults with financial firms on their business strategy and succession plans. In late 2022, George launched a new website www.ultimate-practice.com as a resource center for key information, research, and tools to guide financial advisors on growing, managing, and, ultimately transitioning their practices to the most qualified successor. The site also provides access to online courses that enable advisors to study and implement best practices for their business, as determined by George’s 30+ years of educating and coaching advisors around the world. The outstanding response to the site’s first online course, Succeeding at Succession™ indicates not only the quality of George’s work and content, but also the timeliness of helping advisors plan for their eventual (but inevitable) exit, transition, or retirement from the businesses they have spent so many years building. George is President & CEO, Market Logics Inc. (www.marketlogics.ca), an organization dedicated to helping advisors and financial services firms realize the true potential of their business. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Wilfred Laurier University and sits on the boards of several companies.
